Electric bicycles have become an important part of the American bicycle business. Even mature traditional bicycle brands are now repositioning themselves as electric bike brands. The reason is simple: electric bikes make money. The United States has lagged behind the EU for about 10 years in the recognition and adoption of electric bicycles. Today, however, almost all traditional bicycle brands offer electric bikes, as well as many new brands that focus on electric bikes. Sales have grown steadily, while sales of traditional bicycles have declined. Like the European Union and Asia, the profitable part of the bicycle business is now the electric bicycle business.
